School Camps

We can arrange everything, our catering is generous and all activities are included. Our activities are fun, educational and adventurous to keep you challenged and entertained. We specialise in marine, coastal and indigenous education with plastics in the environment a personal passion. We partner with the Tangaroa Blue Foundation, allowing students to participate in the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI). A small sample of activities we offer are listed below, please contact us for a full listing.

Treasure Hunting

The shipwreck coast is the perfect place to hunt for buried treasure. Armed with the latest metal detectors you will explore the remains of historic whaling stations and known shipwreck sites. You are guaranteed to find a coin and will be able to handle real pirates treasure later in the evening. All students are guaranteed a unique find!

Beach Combing 

Venturing in and around the beach at the front of the property you will learn about the animals that inhabit our coastline. There is an abundance of wildlife in Portland Bay with one of only a few places in the world where you can find fossils from extinct pre-historic great white sharks lying on the beach.

Beach Fishing

The calm waters of Portland Bay are perfect to learn how to catch fish. The activity is hosted by our resident Marine Biologist and any fish/seafood caught can be cooked up later in our registered commercial kitchen. We use premium fishing equipment to ensure an enjoyable experience.

Archery Tag

Using a state of the art bows, soft arrows and protective gear including full faced masks and arm guards, children can live out their fantasy of the Hunger Games or medieval times. This team activity is a cross between dodge ball and paintball, is fun and more importantly very safe compared to traditional archery!

Bush Tucker

Learn from our cultural officer the ways indigenous people lived off the land by eating plants and catching animals. They had specific methods of finding water and trapping fish. Aboriginal people of the district were not nomadic and lived in houses that resembled huts and you will learn how these were made.

Fossil Education (Evenings)

The beach at the front of Portland Bay Lodge is one of the few places in the world where you can find fossils lying on the beach. You will be able to handle genuine 4 million year old fossils teeth of now extinct prehistoric sharks. This is an experience you will never forget!
